James Carroll Beckwith (American, 1852-1917) - Grandmother’s Love Letters, c.1895 (Oil on canvas) - - A reporter for the American Art News noted in 1906 that “J. Carroll Beckwith’s delightful ‘Grandmother’s Love Letters,’ is one of those refined and attractive figure canvases so associated with his able brush.” Art historian Bruce Weber has identified the model Alice Twill as the subject of this painting.
